CSF specimens must meet��all of��the following NYSDOH criteria in order to be submitted for testing:

Temperature >100.4�� F

Abnormal CSF��

Altered mental status��

Patient is hospitalized

If the patient does not meet these criteria, please refer to commercial reference laboratories that can provide PCR testing.

If sending serum, please indicate whether it is acute or convalescent. Convalescent serum is collected 3 weeks or more after an acute infection.
