Clinical and Interpretive
Gastric antral biopsies can be tested for urease activity�� to determine whether Helicobacter pylori bacteria are present. The sensitivity of biopsy urease tests is approximately 90-95% and the specificity is 95-100%.
Antisecretory therapy may diminish numbers of bacteria and cause false negative urease tests.
