A bronchial (lower airway) sample is collected during a bronchoscopy. Fluid collected from the bronchoscopy may be sent to the laboratory for bacterial culture. Colony counts of <10,000 CFU/mL of fluid are generally considered normal. However, the presence of certain pathogens is considered abnormal in any quantity.

Identification and susceptibility will be done, as applicable, with an extra charge.
