Specimen Collection Instructions

Culturette double-swab preferred. Refrigeration is recommended.

 

Throat cultures are clinically indicated to detect the presence of group A strep, arcanobacterium and yeast. In certain cases, predominating organisms will be reported.

 

Routine throat cultures do NOT include detection of Neisseria gonorrhoeae.  Molecular testing is the test of choice.
