Clinical and Interpretive
Antibody screen is a test to screen for any clinically significant antibodies due to a previous transfusion or pregnancy.
DAT a test to demonstrate the presence of immunoglobulin on the surface of the red cells. It is used in the investigation of hemolytic anemia and in conjunction with other testing and clinical data can characterize hemolysis as immune-mediated.
IgG antibody may be present on patient or transfused RBCs and may cause hemolysis. The antibodies may be directed against self-antigens (autoimmune hemolysis), maternal antigens (hemolytic disease of the newborn), donor antigens (alloimmune transfusion reaction), and drugs.
This assay tests for the presence of in vivo coating of patient RBCs by IgG.
